Basildon Club Rapid 2018
The tournament took place on Thursday 21st June 2018, with 14 competitors (although there were 3 dropouts after round 2). The format was a 6 round Swiss tournament, with 10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move. Sum Of Progressive Scores was used as a tie breaker in cases where scores were level.
There was less tension compared to previous years, as the red-hot David Millward raced to a faultless 5/5, thus winning the tournament with a round to spare. Sean Clarke prised half a point from David in the final round to secure the runners-up spot.
Special mention also to Bill Rippon who scored a very creditable 3½ in a very strong field.
Many thanks to all who participated and in particular David Millward for managing the Swiss pairings.
Note: In the table below, SPS is Sum Of Progressive Scores and SOS is Sum Of Opponents Scores.
