Basildon Chess Club is a chess club playing at Papworth Trust Centre, Bradbury House, Witchards, Basildon, Essex SS16 5BP.

The personal data we obtain is applied for the following purposes, namely to:
  • Obtain payment of membership fees to fund the operation of the Club.
  • Identify members on the English Chess Federation (ECF) Website.
  • Submit details to the ECF to enrol Basildon members as ECF members.
  • Register members to play for Basildon in competitions which Basildon enters.
  • Submit results of matches played to the ECF for grading purposes or to other organisations running competitions in which Basildon participates.
  • Communicating with members for the purposes of running the chess club, including selecting and organising teams and other chess events.
Consistently with this, the contact details provided to us by members may be used to contact them by mail, telephone or e-mail for the purposes of the Chess Club.
We will hold personal data for as long as a person is a member and for a reasonable time afterwards.
This data is held pursuant to the legitimate interests of Basildon Chess Club which is the basis on which your data as set out is processed.

Unless required by law, we do not sell, rent or otherwise share personal data with other third parties.

Essex Chess Association (ECA) and English Chess Federation (ECF) Events

Basildon Chess Club collects your name, contact details (address, email, telephone number), DOB and ECF grade reference and membership number so we can contact you, register you in competitions and provide information on game results to grading systems.
We share your data with the Essex Chess Association (ECA) and the English Chess Federation (ECF) for registration, grading and to keep you advised of chess related activities.

If you do not want your data shared, please advise us and we will contact the ECA for your data to be removed. However, it is a requirement of league and county chess activities and of other ECA competitions to provide this data and if you do not want to do so you will no longer be registered to play in the Essex Chess League or be able to participate in ECA competitions. Please contact the ECF directly for changes to the data they hold about you.
