Basildon Rapidplay 2016
The tournament took place on Thursday 9th June 2016, with 14 competitors. The format was a 6 round Swiss tournament, with 10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move. Sum Of Progressive Scores was used as a tie breaker in cases where scores were level.
It was a competition of fluctuating fortunes. Paul Savin lost in the 1st round to Bill Rippon, but then went on a 4 game winning spree. Dave Kraszewski started with 3 victories, then draw with Sean Clarke in round 4 (the only other 100%er) and David Millward in round 5.
Dave and Paul met in the final round, with Paul requiring a win. A somewhat flawed encounter swung back and forth before Dave found a perpetual with little time remaining, thus claiming the trophy.
Very well played to all who participated and thanks to David Millward for managing the Swiss pairings and Sean for organising the competition.
Note: In the table below, SPS is Sum Of Progressive Scores and SOS is Sum Of Opponents Scores.
